Top 10 Tips To Avoid Heartburn

With so many people suffering from bad heartburn, most everyone has the same questions? How do I stop heartburn? Or is their a cure for heartburn? The answer is yes!! A lot of people suffering from constant heartburn go about their daily lives taking over the counter or even prescription medication to relieve the symptoms of heartburn.

Most of the time not knowing some of the long term consequences of just masking the problem from taking the medication or just dealing with the pain.

Here are some important tips on how to get rid of heartburn and starting to feel great again. These tips have helped me personally.

Step 1: Stay away from processed foods such as fast foods. This type of food on a daily basis is a sure way to guarantee that you will have heartburn shortly after eating.

Step 2: Be aware of the foods that are the cause of heartburn. For example, I am eating a lot of chips, french fries, or drinking a lot of soda?  Am I eating a lot of spicy foods? If you know the food or drinks that are causing you to have heartburn, then just simply avoid them.

Step 3: Eat more small meals: Instead of having 3 large meals per day, experiment with having 5 or 6 small meals per day.

Step 4: Stop having late night dinners: Eat dinner at least 3 hours before bedtime. This will help those who are suffering from nighttime heartburn.

Step 5: Wear loose fitting clothes: By loosing up the belt buckle you will put less pressure on the stomach.

Step 6: Eat slower: enjoy the meal you are having and don’t eat your food like it is an eating contest.

Step 7: Avoid alcohol: alcoholic beverages may increase stomach acid. You may want to dilute your mixed drinks with water or club soda.

Step 8: Elevate your head when sleeping: use a couple of extra pillows or a wedged shaped pillow to elevate your head a couple of inches to relieve pressure from the stomach.

Step 9: Stop smoking: smoking can complicate heartburn symptoms.

Step 10: Start having more fruits in your diet. This is by far one of the best foods your can have to avoid heartburn all together and this where I have had the most success with out having to take any medications before or after eating. As a side note to eating more fruits, you may experience having more energy throughout the day and best of all you may lose some weight in a very healthy way and actually keep it off.
